We recommend framing your work to guarantee its longevity. If this isn’t possible for you, we recommend mounting your artwork to the wall with acid-free materials until such a time that you are able to frame it. Pro tip: some galleries use pins and clamps nailed into/onto the wall to hang unframed pieces.
Artworks are sensitive to heat, light, acid and moisture. It is best to bear this in mind when installing (or handling) your work to guarantee its conservation. Hanging an artwork in direct sunlight will inevitably cause fading over time.
If you have to handle the work without a framer, find a clean surface on which to unpack your artwork. Place the acid-free paper in which your piece is rolled between the artwork and the table. We recommend unrolling large works with a second person to prevent paper buckling.
Do not grip the artwork tightly, or this will cause folds in the paper. When handling the artwork itself, bear in mind that direct contact with your skin may result in paper discolouration over time, owing to the oil in your skin. We recommend using gloves/folding a small piece of paper in which to sandwich the work during handling.
